COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has approved rail crossing safety upgrades in Muskingum County.

According to PUCO, the Ohio Central Railroad (OHCR) will install flashing lights, gates, curbs, and sidewalks at the Muskingum Avenue grade crossing. The project costs $201,606 with federal funds going toward 80% of the cost. OHCR, the operating railroad, is responsible for the remaining 20%. OHCR will complete this project by November 18, 2026.

Additional funding via the State Grade Crossing Safety Fund, not exceeding $5,000, can go toward safety improvements during the project. These include rumble strips, improved signage, and illumination.
