Jeffrey Watson Elected to AREMA Board of Governors

ALEXANDRIA, Va. –– The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) has elected Jeffrey B. Watson to its Board of Governors.
Railway Track and Structures is pleased to report that Jeffrey Watson, Vice President of Engineering at Genesee & Wyoming, RT&S 2024 Engineer of the Year, and RT&S Editorial Board member, has been named to the AREMA Board of Governors by the organization’s Governance Nominating Committee, which is Chaired by AREMA Past President William S. Riehl, III. Jeffrey will begin his Board of Governors position at the conclusion of the AREMA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo, which is being held in Kansas City, Mo., September 13-16. Jeffrey’s term will be from 2026-2029.
According to the AREMA presser, “Jeffrey B. Watson is a seasoned railroad engineering executive with more than two decades of leadership experience across domestic and international rail networks. He began his railroad career with CSX Transportation in 2002. As he progressed through engineering management roles, he worked across both high-density mainline territories and diverse yard operations, including hump and flat switching facilities.
“He joined Genesee & Wyoming in 2008 and has since held positions of increasing responsibility, including Director of Engineering, General Manager of Infrastructure, Assistant Vice President of Regional Engineering, and now Vice President of Engineering for G&W North America.
“His career also includes two years of leading the Infrastructure Department for G&W’s Australian subsidiary, where he managed large-scale asset programs and operational engineering functions.
“He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Infantry as a Non-Commissioned Officer from 1996 to 2002.
“Mr. Watson was recognized as the 2024 RT&S Engineer of the Year for his contributions to railroad engineering and industry leadership.”
