Newtonville Station Accessibility Improvements Project Taking Shape
Written by Jennifer McLawhorn, Managing Editor
NEWTON, Mass. - The MBTA is planning Newtonville Station accessibility improvements to take place from November 2026 to June 2029.
RT&S first reported on the accessibility improvements project back in November 2024. The MBTA says it is currently progressing early action packages and the overall design, with construction expected to begin in November.
Throughout the project, the station, located on the Framingham/Worcester Line, will receive two fully accessible and high-level side platforms, accessible pathways, elevator and stair connections from the sidewalk to the pickup and drop-off area, as well as elevator and stair connections between station platforms. Crews will also work on benches, canopies, signage, and tactile warning strips. When construction begins in the fall, the MBTA says it will focus on railroad utility relocation and retaining wall installation to allow for construction to take place.
On June 24, the MBTA will hold a meeting both virtually and at the Cooper Center for Active Living from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. During this meeting, the MBTA will update the status of the project. Those interested can register at MBTA’s website.
