FORT WORTH –– BNSF announced this week that the last 3.5 of approximately 51 miles of new double track were cutover, about halfway across the railroad's Southern Transcon.

The last major section of double track was laid between Rose Hill and Mulvane, Kansas. BNSF reports there are now at least two main lines on nearly the entire Southern Transcon. There are two remaining short sections of single track left to be installed ––about 1.5 miles in Sibley, Missouri, and about 3 miles in Alva, Oklahoma.

BNSF added in its post on Linked-In: “This is our busiest corridor, stretching from Southern California to Chicago and a key route for intermodal trains. Pictured above is the first intermodal train to operate on the new line, a ‘Z’ train or a high-priority train.

“Big picture, we can now daily run multiple priority intermodal trains in and out of Southern California between key markets, with no need to stop a train every 10 miles to meet another –– keeping the country well supplied!”
