Cando Rail & Terminals Adds Another Multi-Purpose Rail Terminal to Network

WINNIPEG, MB/ENTERPRISE, NT –– Cando Rails and Terminals has announced that it has acquired the rail terminal operations of AWP Industries in the Northwest Territories

Cando is one of North America’s largest operators of first and last mile rail infrastructure, and AWP is a first-class private railcar storage and transload terminals in the Northwest Territories.

The new terminal serves Class I partner Canadian National along with existing Cando network customers. The AWP terminal was constructed recently, with significant room for future expansion. Morever, the terminal is connects with CN at the railroad’s northern terminus, serving as a key route and gateway to the North for bulk commodities destined for mines, government agencies, communities, and ariports.

This terminal acquisition is Cando’s second in less than a year. Brian Cornick, President & CEO of Cando, says “AWP’s terminal was another perfect fit for Cando. Brad Mapes, the Founder and CEO of AWP, has done a tremendous job over the last few years turning undeveloped land into a fast-growing rail terminal serving several of North America’s largest shippers. The new terminal gives Cando’s entire network the capacity to stage and store more than 11,000 railcars. Cando provides rail operations at nearly 50 customer locations, owns and operates a short line railroad, and now owns and operates 13 rail terminals. Alan Mapes, Founder and CEO of AWP, is now a shareholder and employee of Cando.
