NOVA SCOTIA – Canadian National rail track suffered damage after torrential rainfall hit Nova Scotia.

According to Reuters, Canadian National suffered damage after torrential rainfall hit Nova Scotia. Tim Houston, Nova Scotia Premier, commented on the “’extensive damage’ to a section of CN Rail track used by freight trains heading for the Port of Halifax, which contributes around C$4.4 billion ($3.3 billion) to Nova Scotia’s annual economic output.” A spokesperson from Canadian National mentioned that maintenance would not be possible until the flooding had eased.

Cision also reported on the support provided from Transport Canada in assessing the damage to the existing infrastructure and the Minister of Transport, Omar Alghabra’s statement on CN’s damaged rail. Alghabra commented that the weather seen in Nova Scotia has “caused considerable damage to roads and infrastructure,” and in an effort to mitigate the “interruptions to the supply chain, my departmental officials are working with CN as they restore damaged rail lines and will continue to provide special assistance such as that from the National Aerial Surveillance Program to assess the damage.”
