CHICAGO - CSX has removed the Forest Hill rail diamond in Chicago.

Starting in November 2025, the Class I worked to remove the rail diamond in its steps toward “improving network fluidity” in the area. By removing the structure, which dates back to 1891, CSX says it eliminates delays and reduces the need for as much maintenance. As a result, “disruptions” to the community are also reduced. The work was part of the larger 75th Street Corridor Improvement Project.

On LinkedIn, CSX shared a video detailing the diamond crossing and its history and recent removal. The crossing was “formalized in a 1914 interlocking agreement between CSX’s predecessor, the B&O, along with the C&WI, BRC, and Wabash Railroad companies.”
