CSX Shares Day in the Life of a Track Supervisor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - CSX shared a day in the life of one of its track supervisors in its Florida Division.
The video (reproduced below) shows the work done by track supervisor Kyler Denison when operating a hi-rail vehicle. These vehicles are specialized trucks that are able to operate directly on tracks due to retractable steel wheels. By allowing track supervisors to evaluate the right-of-way this way, they can assess track conditions, public crossings, and signals.
To operate a hi-rail vehicle, there are strict standards and rules to adhere to, including a “deep understanding of the physical characteristics of the territory,” says CSX. This is of vital importance to ensure smooth operations daily along CSX’s network. The Class I thanked its crews for their dedication and use of tools to ensure safety and reliability.
Track supervisor Denison said, “Safety drives every decision we make on the track. . . That means following operating rules, staying situationally aware, and looking out for the people you’re working with so we can all go home to our families each and every night.”
