WILLARD, Ohio - CSX completed infrastructure upgrades at Willard Yard in Ohio.

The Class I says this yard is a “critical hub” in its network, and the upgrades allow for increased daily car capacity. Over the course of two years, CSX worked to restore connectivity and optimize operations at the facility, says CSX. Crews reconnected the previous hump area to the classification yard with new switches and new track panels. Additionally, crews converted old power switches to hand-throw mechanisms. The Class I says this is to “provide better control for ground crews.” Crews also worked to rebuild and surface tracks as well as replace ties. The upgrades allow for double its previous capacity. As a result, Willard Yard can handle more than 600 cars daily with the facility supporting six trains.

CSX director of track Logan Rector said, “This transformation has completely changed how we operate. . . By restoring connectivity and upgrading infrastructure, we’ve doubled our daily car count and improved efficiency across the board. It’s a huge win for operations and for our customers.”
