SACRAMENTO - For statewide rail safety training, Union Pacific partnered with California Highway Patrol as part of its commitment to rail safety.

According to UP, senior supervisor for Public Safety Buck Russel led a two-day Railroad Investigation and Safety Course (RISC) with California Operation Lifesaver and another Class I railroad special agent. The program seeks to train officers across California “to become subject matter experts in rail safety and enforcement.”
After the program, officers can educate other officers on railroad operations and safety to reduce the risk of rail-related accidents. UP states its goal is to “build a network of informed first responders who can effectively share rail safety information.”
Senior supervisor – Public Safety Buck Russel said, “First responders are essential to safety in the communities where Union Pacific operates. . . Having worked in law enforcement, I understand the potential risks officers can encounter in the railroad environment. . . We want them to be informed so they can stay safe and help their communities stay safe.”
