MONTREAL - CN is working to relieve congestion in its network in the Montreal to Toronto corridor after a derailment occurred in Taschereau Yard.
Excessive snow and a derailment in Taschereau Yard led to the traffic congestion, according to CN. CBC states two snow storms dropped close to 75 centimeters of snow in Montreal over the course of four days, leading to closed roads and slowed traffic. Reportedly, trains have either stopped or have slowed. The derailment involved 12 railcars and was contained within the yard. Fortunately, there were “no fires, leaks, or injuries to report.”
Additionally, the excessive snowfall caused Exo, a commuter train service, to cancel many of its trains on the Vaudreuil-Hudson line due to switching problems. Via Rail also experienced issues with snowfall and stopped its trains in Dorval, Que.
