CSX Makes Progress on Blue Ridge Recovery Project Using Work Trains

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. - CSX continues working to rebuild a 60-mile rail segment that was previously impacted by Hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024.
Earlier this year, RT&S reported that CSX was currently making headway in its Blue Ridge Subdivision recovery efforts. Crews had pulled materials out of the Nolichucky River after Hurricane Helene destroyed the Poplar Bridge in fall of 2024. Since February 24, 2025, crews have been working to remove rail, ties, and other equipment.
In June, the Class I marked a milestone in these efforts after it placed seven new spans for the Poplar Bridge. The bridge was then “ready for track to be laid.” Last week, CSX announced via social media that it has rebuilt the Poplar Bridge that crosses over the Nolichucky River in North Carolina. Now, CSX has released another video that shows progress being made in its Blue Ridge Recovery project. It has been using work trains to deliver materials necessary to speed up “the restoration of the 60-mile rail segment impacted by Hurricane Helene.” Below is the video, courtesy of CSX via X.
