DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. - Metra says crews were working to make emergency repairs after the extreme cold temperatures caused broken rails.
The BNSF line travels through Naperville to Union Station in Chicago. According to a report, a Metra spokesperson stated the broken rails led to trains having to use a single track located between LaGrange Road Station in LaGrange and Fairview Avenue Station in Downers Grove.
The Class I trains were on a delay because of “track repairs and switch problems.” Extreme cold temperatures led to cracking, according to Fox32Chicago. Crews were able to repair that area of the track, but delays remain.
