SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Commerce Commission approved an agreement to install automatic warning devices at a grade crossing in Henry County.
The County Road 2450 East grade crossing is located near BNSF tracks near Kewanee in Henry County. The total cost to install the automated warning devices is $397,780. The Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) is recommended to be used to pay 95%, or $377,889, of the design and installation costs. BNSF will pay the remaining installation costs and any future maintenance costs.
ICC Commissioner Michael T. Carrigan said, “Upgrading warning devices at highway-rail crossings prevents collisions and saves lives. . . The Grade Crossing Protection Fund is an important resource used by the ICC to help railroads and local governments complete needed improvements to keep people safe near trains and train tracks.”
