WASHINGTON, D.C. –– This week, the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) welcomes Nicole Brewin as the Association’s Vice President of Congressional Affairs.

Ms. Brewin brings extensive Capitol Hill, rail and transportation government affairs experience and substantial expertise in influencing policy and legislative initiatives in both the public and private sectors to the position. She will be leading the congressional affairs team at ASLRRA, working with association staff and member short line railroads to pursue legislative support for critical issues facing the industry including investment in infrastructure, and surface transportation and tax policy.

“Nicole is no stranger to the rail industry, having led government affairs for the Railway Supply Institute (RSI), a key partner for short lines, for many years providing insight and guidance in continually changing political landscapes,” said Chuck Baker, President of ASLRRA. “Her proven strengths in coalition building and legislative strategy, and more than twenty years influencing policy and regulatory actions will enable her to make a meaningful and immediate impact for ASLRRA’s members.”

Ms. Brewin comes to ASLRRA from The Travel Technology Association where she guided the development of a government relations strategy to advance member policy objectives, and managed the work of partner lobbying organizations. Prior to The Travel Technology Association, Ms. Brewin spent twenty-two years with RSI, progressing from Assistant Vice President to Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs, leading the RSI’s effort on Capitol Hill and in regulatory matters, managing a team of twelve and the work of eight member-driven Committees. She began her career as a Legislative Assistant to U.S. Congressman Peter Visclosky, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.

“I’m looking forward to working on initiatives that enable the short line industry to continue to provide critical service to customers, and drive growth for our Class I partners and the economy,” said Ms. Brewin. “As we seat a new Congress in the coming months, it will be critical for our elected officials to understand how they can contribute to ensuring that America’s freight rail system, including our nation’s 600 short lines, continues to be world-class, flexible and sustainable.”

Ms. Brewin holds a B.A. from Marymount University as well as a certificate in Association Management from the American Society of Association Executives. She has served as a Board Member of the OneRail Coalition, Operation Lifesaver, Inc., and the Women’s Transportation Seminar, DC Chapter. She was honored by Railway Age Magazine as a Women in Rail, Inspiring Leader Award in 2018.
