BOSTON – Service on part of MBTA’s Green Line resumed after a derailment.

An MBTA spokesperson announced that a train heading westbound derailed near Packard’s Corner. Phillip Eng, the MBTA General Manager believes that “the condition of the tracks in the area contributed to the derailment”, namely “the distance between the rails was not where it should have been.” Constructed between 1998 and 2007, the vehicle in question was part of the Type 8 class.

Riders were offered an alternative mode of transportation in the form of shuttle buses between Kenmore Square and Washington Street before the trains were able to resume. WCVB reported that “the area was already subject to speed restrictions” while Eng has stated that there is a plan in place “to have a contractor rehabilitate the tracks in the area of the Summer.”

While there were more than two dozen passengers on board during the derailment, there were no injuries reported.
