Amtrak Upgrades Green River and Helper Stations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As part of a larger commitment toward upgrading its passenger stations, Amtrak completes $5 million in improvements to the Green River and Helper stations.

Amtrak has added the Green River and Helper stations in Utah to its list of upgraded, accessible stations. As part of its ADA Stations Program, Amtrak completed $5 million in upgrades that include “new guardrails, lighting, signage, accessible parking spots and ramps leading up to the platforms.” Amtrak’s California Zephyr stops twice at each station daily. 

The Helper Station platform was extended from 25 feet to 550 feet to ensure a smoother boarding process for passengers. The Green River station, passengers now wait to board the California Zephyr inside a replacement platform shelter.

Amtrak Vice President of Accessibility Dr. David Handera said, “With construction, renovation, repair, and upgrade projects at stations across the country, station accessibility is a priority we’re actively pursuing. . . We want Green River, Helper, and all of our stations to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for every customer.” According to Amtrak, another 30 stations are slated for upgrades and accessibility improvements this fiscal year to ensure 100% completion by 2029.
