BOSTON – Throughout the month of September, the MBTA will suspend service on its Red Line as well as the Kingston, Middleborough, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines to allow for track repairs.
According to the news release from the MBTA, the MBTA will use the closures to repair 18 miles of track located between JFK/UMass and Braintree. This will subsequently remove more than 20 speed restrictions. Additionally, the MBTA says the improvements will “lay the groundwork” for its goal of raising Red Line train speeds. During these weekends (listed below), the MBTA will provide shuttle buses for its riders.

September 6th to September 29th: Red Line Braintree service will be suspended during this time. As part of the Track Improvement Plan, crews will address 20 speed restrictions and perform additional work at the stations along this segment. Stations along this segment will receive lighting repairs, painting, and deep cleaning.

September 7th – 8th and September 14th – 15th: Service on the Kingston, Middleborough, and Greenbush Commuter Rail lines will be suspended during this time to allow for work under the Track Improvement Plan to take place.
