NEW YORK CITY - The MTA continues its Re-NEW-vation Program that began in 2022. The 100th project was completed at Roosevelt Island station.

The MTA states this program uses planned service outages to complete upgrades and repairs to stations. For Roosevelt Island station, crews worked to prime and paint over 10,000 square feet of surface inside and outside the station. Additionally, crews cleaned and converted 510 LED light fixtures, repaired and replaced ADA tiling, installed a tactile edge, and completed inspections of stairways. 100 square feet of wall tiling and hundreds more of missing ceiling panels were installed. Along with power washing and deep cleaning of the entire station, the inside artwork also received cleaning.
Throughout the previous projects, MTA was able to repaint 4.18 million square feet of surfaces, replace 106,725 square feet of wall tile, replace 6,030 square feet of flooring, install 2,186 metal signs, install 282 decals, remove 224 outdated/damaged signs/map frames, and repaired 104 signs or mounting brackets.
“Customers should expect not just fast and reliable service from NYCT but also clean and inviting station environments,” said NYC Transit Interim President Demetrius Crichlow. “Capitalizing on planned outages to rehabilitate stations with fresh paint, new tiling, brighter lights and more is part of how we’re continuously working to enhance the customer experience.”
“We remain committed to improving the customer experience by ensuring stations are held to the same high standards service is,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “Through this program we are reaching stations throughout the subway system to make improvements that customers can see for themselves.”
