NEW YORK CITY - The MTA announced the award of a contract for constructing ADA-accessibility upgrades at five subway stations. The package is called ADA Package 6 and will include the Middletown Road subway station in the Bronx.

The five subway stations are Norwood Av, Myrtle Av, Avenue I, Burnside Av, and Middletown Road. The package is the latest in improvements taken by the MTA Construction & Development. It’s funded partly by $254 million from the FTA’s All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP). The Middletown Road station was an addition to the MTA Capital Plan and will be funded via local sources. This particular station will see improvements that include upgrading payment areas and installing an elevator.

The MTA states the “proposed contract will be submitted to the MTA Board for consideration and approval at its December committee and full board meetings.” Work is expected to begin on these projects in February 2025 and completed by 2029.

MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said, “Every day, more than 20,000 riders pass through the stations included in this package. . . They – and all New Yorkers – deserve to ride the subway without having to worry about finding an accessible station. The MTA is knocking out ADA projects faster than ever before so that in a few years they won’t have to anymore.”
