NEWARK, N.J. - NJ TRANSIT announced it has awarded a contract to replace two escalators at Hamilton Station, one of the busiest stations along the NEC.
The $5,183,000 contract was awarded to Hall Construction Co. Inc. “for parts fabrication and installation” on March 31st, according to NJ TRANSIT. On April 7th, a Notice to Proceed was issued. The timeline for the elevator replacements has been advanced by six months, and the escalators are expected to be open and operational by either late spring or early summer of 2026.
NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri said, “We are pleased to move forward with the full replacement of the Hamilton Station escalators, a project that reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the customer experience . . . By accelerating the timeline for procurement, we are prioritizing our focus on customer service and ensuring that escalators in the station operate as expected.”
“I thank NJ TRANSIT for advancing these crucial improvements to Hamilton Station,” said Mercer County Executive Dan Benson. “Thousands of Mercer County residents use the station every day, and it is vitally important that all passengers, especially those with mobility issues, be able to move through the station unimpeded.”
“I want to thank NJ TRANSIT for moving on this much needed escalator replacement at the Hamilton Train station,” said Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin. “I appreciate their recognition of the importance of the project by expediating it for our community.”
