TORONTO – The Ontario Government has broken ground on three Ontario Line stations: King-Bathurst, Queen-Spadina, and Moss Park Stations.

According to the news release from the Ministry of Transportation, construction at these three sites will include soil and bedrock removal. This is to allow for the construction of 30- to 40-meter-deep stations. These stations will have elevators and escalators to connect the subways to street-level. Additionally, this work is preparation for future tunnel boring machines (TBMs) that will connect these underground stations through the downtown segment of the line.

The King-Bathurst Station station will serve more than 5,000 commuters and create a connection between the Ontario Line and streetcar routes. The Queen-Spadina Station and Moss Park Station will serve more than 7,000 commuters and 5,000 transfers during the morning timeframe. Once these stations are complete, the Ontario Line will have 15 stations that run from Exhibition Place to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The addition of these three stations will allow more than 70,000 people to be within walking distance of the Ontario Line. Subsequently, by 2041, this Line will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 14,000 tonnes annually.

Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria said, “Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is one step closer to delivering a world-class system for the GTA. . . The stations we’re breaking ground on today will help tackle gridlock, reduce commute times, and connect tens of thousands of commuters to homes and good-paying jobs each and every day.”

The Honorable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities said, “A strong public transit system will help folks in Toronto get where they need to go faster, and reliably. That’s why, in 2021 we announced $10.9 billion in support for the Ontario Line. . . With the launch of Canada Public Transit Fund in July, we are investing nearly $30 billion over the next 10 years for transit projects across the country.” The ground-breaking of the King-Bathurst, Queen-Spadina, and Moss-Park stations is an important milestone in our work to build a stronger public transportation system across the Greater Toronto area.”
