VANCOUVER, B.C. - TransLink will replace a 40-year-old elevator at Stadium-Chinatown SkyTrain Station.

Beginning October 21, crews will start replacement work on the old elevator. This work will take four months, according to TransLink. The new structure will be 20% larger to accommodate three adults or two additional manual wheelchairs.

This work is part of TransLink’s Expo Line Elevator Replacement Program that seeks to improve accessibility at SkyTrain stations. In this program, 21 elevators across 15 stations will be replaced with more modern and spacious elevators. As of reporting, elevator replacements are underway at Nanaimo and 22nd Street stations. Later this fall, Waterfront Station will begin to undergo elevator replacement work as well.

These elevators will include more room, better reliability that leads to less downtime for maintenance, and better weather resiliency. More detailed information on alternative routes and transit can be found at TransLink’s website.
