TTC To Perform Preventative Maintenance on Lines 1 and 2
Written by Jennifer McLawhorn, Managing Editor
TORONTO – The TTC will have preventative maintenance work take place on sections of Lines 1 and 2 to repair minor track issues.
The track issues were observed during inspections, and the TTC says this “proactive approach allows the transit agency to address potential issues before they escalate into more serious disruptions and to ensure the ongoing safety and dependability of subway service.” During these inspections, crews look at the tracks, ballast, and ties among other related infrastructure.
Previously, in May, the TTC conducted a survey using predictive rail maintenance technology. This technology, the TTC says, is able to identify “multiple points where track geometry, such as rail gauge and wear, was outside the TTC’s acceptable standards.” To address identified issues, the TTC will use scheduled closures throughout August and September to allow maintenance crews to complete the necessary repairs.
In these areas on both lines, trains will run at reduced speeds, and customers can expect longer than normal travel times. Specific information regarding scheduled times and delays can be found on its website or at the link here.
