WASHINGTON, D.C. - WMATA announces upcoming December closures for some of its Blue, Orange, and Silver Line stations.
According to a news release, these closures will begin December 20th and run until December 30th. These dates were chosen due to historically lower ridership. These closures are to allow for an 11-day major construction project that includes improving tracks and signaling. All stations will reopen on December 31st.
December 20-26: Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver) at Metro Center will be closed.

December 27-30: Farragut West, McPherson Square, lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver) at Metro Center, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, and the lower level of L’Enfant Plaza (Blue, Orange, Silver) will be closed.

The work includes “replacing grout pads, replacing fasteners and studs, welding open joints, upgrading platform edge lighting, and more.”
During this time, alternative transportation (shuttle buses) will be available for Metro customers.
