PITTSBURGH - CSX awarded Fay, S&B USA Construction a contract for the Alexandria Fourth Track Project.
RT&S recently reported on the Alexandria Fourth Track Project, which seeks to construct six miles of a fourth track extending from Arlington to west of Alexandria Union Station. As part of other Northern Virginia projects to support the Transforming Rail in Virginia (TRV) initiative, the $238 million project is a joint effort between Virginia Passenger Rail Authority, the City of Alexandria, Virginia Rail Express, and Amtrak. The fourth track will be dedicated to passenger trains.
The contract for CSX includes site preparation, six miles of track construction, bridge construction, excavation, retaining walls, and modification of an existing crash wall at Telegraph Road. Additionally, the contract includes installing reinforced concrete culvert structures and drainage pipe and building a new MoW at-grade crossing for CSX crews. According to the release, this construction will take an estimated two years to complete.
“Backed by 75 years of heavy-civil experience, Fay brings proven rail expertise and disciplined execution to advance the Alexandria Fourth Track Project safely and seamlessly,” said Ryan Surrena, President of Fay. “Strong partnerships and reliable field performance will define how we deliver this work.”
Other Projects
Fay is also part of Long Bridge Rail Partners (LBRP), a joint venture of Fay, S&B USA Construction, Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc., and Trumbull Corp for the Long Bridge South Package where it will help serve as the design-build contractor.
In Baltimore, Fay is working to deliver two contracts for CSX in creating double-stack freight train clearance. Fay says the first is to convert two arches of the North Avenue Bridge into a single-span bridge. The second was a joint venture with Skanska to complete the Howard Street Tunnel project.
