KEARNY, N.J. - Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner and NJ TRANSIT President and CEO Kris Kolluri visited the Portal North Bridge to highlight the third arch's delivery.

The third arch is the final of the bridge span to be delivered. RT&S reported on the delivery of the first arch in November 2024. These arches will support the new Portal North Bridge that will replace the current 114-year-old swing bridge. The new bridge will eliminate the need to open and close, a process that results in service delays.

On LinkedIn, Amtrak shared photos of the visit. It stated, “We’re proud to highlight this significant milestone together with our partners at NJ TRANSIT, as having all three arches here shows off the project’s progress and what we can accomplish when we invest in infrastructure in the Northeast. Construction is on schedule and within budget, and we’re looking forward to Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT trains riding on the new bridge late next year!”
