First light-rail trains cross one of the widest bridges out there

The Samuel De Champlain Bridge is 50 meters wide.

One of the widest bridges in the world is finally opening its arms for light rail transit.

The Reseau express metropolitain de Montreal is now running trains across the Samuel De Champlain Bridge in Quebec, Canada. Cars and pedestrians have been using the bridge for three years.

The Samuel De Champlain Bridge is 3.4-km long and at 50 meters across is one of the widest spans one can find.

The REM du Sud is setting up to operate on the bridge in December 2022. Driverless trains will move between Brossard to the Central Station across the Lawrence River.

Systra IBT, T.Y. Lin International, and SNC Lavalin formed the joint venture that made rail travel possible for the REM de Montreal across the Samuel De Champlain Bridge.
