AVERY COUNTY, N.C. - CSX and partners are installing track panels along the Blue Ridge subdivision as part of its recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene.
Throughout 2025, RT&S has reported that CSX is underway in recovery operations along its Blue Ridge subdivision. Most recently, the Class I completed the Poplar Bridge that crosses over the Nolichucky River.
Now, CSX shared a video on X showing B&P, the contractor, at night setting track panels using an excavator. During the day, CSX states “RailWorks and CSX forces are making all the electric flash butt weld as well as doing all the quality and surfacing behind the welding.”
August 18 Update
On August 15, CSX gave an update on its Blue Ridge Subdivision recovery. After months of work, it has “advanced to the track-laying phase.” This is a major milestone in the process.
CSX Director of Track Kevin Haddix said, “It has taken roughly 10 months to get the roadbed ready for the track panel installation. . . It’s important to CSX to get this line back open to restore fluidity on our surrounding lines. . . There’s a lot of people around this area that are anxious to see a train run.”
Along 60 miles of affected railroad, CSX says its “#ONECSX team is building back better – for our customers, communities, & employees.”
