BOSTON – The MBTA announced service changes on several lines so it can continue its work in maintaining track infrastructure across its system.

Green Line

MBTA reports its Green Line B branch service will be suspended from August 2nd to 11th between Boston College and Babcock Street. During this time, an alternative bus shuttle service will be available for passengers.

This will allow for crews to work on the Track Improvement Program, which will replace tracks and ties in order to reduce speed restrictions. During the outage, crews will work on signals and upgrade station amenities. These includes new lighting, tiling, painting, and power washing.

Orange Line

Service between Wellington and Back Bay will be suspended on the weekends of August 3rd – 4th and August 17th – 18th . Shuttle service will be available between Wellington and North Station. MBTA reports crews will work on “critical signal work.”

Mattapan Line

Beginning at 8:45p.m. on August 16th and continuing through the weekend of August 17th – 18th, service will be suspended between Mattapan and Ashmont. Similarly, shuttle service will be available for passengers. During that weekend, crews will perform track work along the line. Within the Mattapan car yard, crews will complete switch work.

Red Line

Between JFK/UMass and Kendall/MIT, service will be suspended from August 19th to 25th. Information about shuttle service can be found here. During the seven day outage, crews will work on its Track Improvement Program.

Haverhill Commuter Rail Line

Through the end of the summer, MBTA has a special construction schedule in effect for the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line, as seen below.

Service changes are in place in order to allow crews to work on the replacement of the South Elm Bridge. This bridge carries the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line over South Elm Street. The replacement will be a single-span structure that is expected to last 75 years.
