SHIRLEY, N.Y. - On the Montauk branch, the Long Island Rail Road Mastic-Shirley station has received renovations.
According to the MTA, crews worked to reconstruct the platform shelter and install new LED lighting, illuminated bollards, a digital information screen, and upgraded the security and communication system. The station now has a “new sheltered 2,000-square-foot-plaza area featuring historic photos where the 65-year-old building used to be.” The station received repainted railings, new station signage and map, and new benches and seating. The MTA states crews also worked to repair the platform and under-platform support as well as replacing the platform tactile strip, repaired the ADA accessible ramp, and installed a bike rack. LIRR crews and Orange County Engineering (OCE) Contracting worked together to perform the $7.49 million work needed at the station.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mastic-Shirley customers to a brighter and spruced-up station,” said Long Island Rail Road President Rob Free. “This renovation is a reminder of the importance of a fully funded capital plan, which will allow us to continue to upgrade our system.”
“We’re proud to deliver another on-budget improvement project for Long Islanders,” said MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer. “The reconstructed platform shelter and new station shelter plaza at Mastic-Shirley create a well-lit and welcoming area for customers, and our state of good repair work allows this station to better serve Suffolk County for generations to come.”
