The Short Line Safety Institute (SLSI) is seeking candidates to fill the position of executive director.

The mission of the SLSI is to provide leadership to enhance the safety culture and conformance of shortline and regional railroads through voluntary, non-punitive partnerships in close coordination with the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA). Its strategic goals are to enhance and improve safety practices and to increase the shortline and regional railroad industry’s culture of commitment to safety through assessing their safety culture, providing them with opportunities to improve that safety culture and providing leadership, training, and education about safety culture and conformance.

The position will oversee the development and implementation of the assessment, research, education, communication and training programs for the SLSI. The executive director will be responsible for the development of the budget for the SLSI and overseeing all required financial reports.

The candidate will lead key executives, mid-level managers and staff in the successful implementation of the established mission, vision and goals of the SLSI. This position will fulfill an important oversight role, reporting directly to the president of the Short Line Safety Institute, as well as an important liaison role to the SLSI Board of Directors, SLSI Safety Advisory Board, the ASLRRA and the ASLRRA Safety & Training Committee.
