The Indiana Rail Road Company (INRD) and Pan Am Railways, Inc., have joined the Association of American Railroads (AAR) as new full members.

“We are delighted to welcome the Indiana Rail Road Company and Pan Am Railways into our association,” said AAR President and CEO Ed Hamberger, “Their decision to join the AAR broadens our membership and strengthens our ability to effectively represent our industry.”

The Indiana Rail Road Company is a privately-held, 500-mile freight railroad based in Indianapolis, Ind., with a staff of almost 200. The company hauls a variety of consumer, energy and industrial products and serves central and southwest Indiana and central Illinois with connections to the North American rail network at Chicago, Ill.; Indianapolis, Ind.; Louisville, Ky. and Newton, Ill.

“Given the steady growth and diversification of our traffic in recent years, along with the challenges and incredible opportunities I foresee for Indiana Rail Road and the industry as a whole, I felt it was time for INRD to join the AAR and participate in industry dialogue at another level,” said Tom Hoback, president and chief executive officer of Indiana Rail Road. “The AAR does an outstanding job in rail advocacy, delivering real-time economic data, technological advancement and safety and getting involved in AAR’s various technical working groups will help us to stay at the forefront of this growing, ever-changing industry.”

Pan Am Railways, a regional freight railroad system based in North Billerica, Mass., operates more than 2,000 miles of track and connects with four Class 1 carriers and 20 shortline railroads. Pan Am’s routes extend from Saint John and Saint-Léonard, New Brunswick to Rotterdam Junction, N.Y., and Derby, Conn.

“Pan Am’s priority is to operate a safe, cost effective, service oriented railroad, therefore it only makes sense to become a member of an association with that same commitment,” said David Fink, president of Pan Am Railways.
