Caltrain construction, maintenance update, Sept. 4-10

Written by jrood

Work will be done on the shoring and the foundation for the new pedestrian underpass at the station. The underpass will connect the north- and southbound platforms, allowing two trains to pass through the station at the same time and improving safety for pedestrians in the station. Passengers at the station are boarding the train from a temporary platform. Passengers are asked to observe all posted signs and follow direction from identified ambassadors in the station. The temporary platform will be in use for approximately six months.

The work is part of an
18-month station improvement project that will add a new wider, longer
center-boarding platform and extend the southern platform 150 feet.

Work continues on a VTA
project that will improve safety at eight grade crossings in Sunnyvale,
Mountain View and Palo Alto. Monday, Sept. 6 to Thursday, Sept. 9, crews will
work at Mary and Sunnyvale avenues. Work will include foundation and signal
work.

Sept. 6-9, crews will
replace crossties between the Millbrae and Hayward Park stations.

Sept. 6-10, crews will
install track panels and spikes between the crossings at Bayswater Avenue in
Burlingame and Poplar Avenue in San Mateo. This is follow-up work being done in
support of the rail replacement work that has taken place over the previous
weekends.

Sept. 5-9, crews will weld
and surface the tracks between Belmont and San Antonio stations.
