February 14, 2001 CSX Transportation will move a regional headquarters from Chicago to North Baltimore, Ohio, early next year, according to railway officials, the Findlay, Ohio, Courier reports. Construction is under way on a $175-million intermodal rail yard near North Baltimore. The yard is scheduled to be completed next year, and the headquarters will be located at the yard, according to company officials.

It was not revealed how
many jobs would shift to North Baltimore from Chicago.

"I don’t have a number
on that," said Rusty Orben, director of public affairs with CSXT. "It
doesn’t entail much."

CSXT operations are divided
between northern and southern divisions, according to Orben, and a regional headquarters
in Chicago now oversees the northern division.

In addition to Ohio, the
northern region covers Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Michigan, Indiana and
New Jersey.

"Strategically, North
Baltimore is the best location for the northern team," Orben said.

The northern division
consists of 16 intermodal terminals.

North Baltimore Mayor Ned
Sponsler welcomed the headquarters move.

"I hope it’s a sign of
increased business to the area," Sponsler said.
