Gulf & Ohio buys Lancaster & Chester

Gulf & Ohio Railways, Inc., is set to acquire the Lancaster & Chester Railway Company. The L&C Railway operates 62 miles and hauls primarily agricultural products, building supplies, chemicals, minerals and steel for customers in Chester and Lancaster Counties, S.C. Gulf & Ohio Railways, headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., operates 203 miles on seven short line railroads in North Carolina, Tennessee and Alabama. The Lancaster & Chester will continue to keep its name, blue and white color scheme, logo and "The Springmaid Line" tagline. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in November and is subject to STB approval.
