The stations are a neo-classical style designed to fit in historic neighborhoods, including Freemason, as well as more suburban settings, such as Ingleside.
The board also approved adding $1.29-million to another contract to build the elevator and stair tower for the elevated station over Brambleton Avenue at Norfolk State University. The elevator and stairs were to be included in a different contract but were removed because the location of the station shifted at the request of NSU. Now that station plans are set, the elevator and stairs were added back.
HRT officials said the costs are covered in the overall $288 million budget.
The 7.4-mile starter line is under construction from the city line at Newtown Road, through downtown to the medical center on Brambleton Avenue. It's expected to open in about a year.
