Upgraded rail crossings approved in Ohio

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved construction authorization from the Ohio Rail Development Commission directing Wheeling & Lake Erie, Norfolk Southern, CSX Transportation and Indiana & Ohio Railway to install flashing lights and roadway gates at six grade crossings in Auglaize, Champaign, Fayette, Logan, Ross and Wayne counties, the Urbana Daily Citizen reports.



Upgrades are planned at
Buckland-Holden Road and County Road 190 in Logan County and at Dallas Road in
Champaign County.



Each railroad must submit
site plans and cost estimates for the projects to the PUCO by Oct. 12. Funding
for these upgrades will be provided through federal funds. The railroads will
be responsible for completing construction of the upgrades by July 14, 2011.
