UP investing $33 million in Nebraska, Missouri, Wisconsin track

February 14, 2001 February 14, 2001 Union Pacific is investing more than $18 million to improve the rail line that runs from Fremont to North Bend, Neb. Also Union Pacific is investing more than $11 million to improve the rail line that runs from Jefferson City, Mo., to Wooldridge, Mo. Also in Missouri, UP is investing more than $2 million to improve the rail line in St. Louis, Mo., that runs from Vandeventer Ave. to near Jefferson Barracks. In Wisconsin, UP Railroad is investing more than $2 million to improve the rail line that runs from Merrillan, Wis., to near Millston, Wis.      

Work on the nearly 17-mile
stretch of Nebraska track began August 1 and is scheduled to be completed in
late August. The project includes removing and installing new rail and more
than 42,800 concrete ties. Crews also will spread more than 55,600 tons of rock
ballast to reinforce the roadbed and renew the roadway surfaces at 11
crossings. Union Pacific will use a modern track renewal train, the TRT 909,
which installs rail and concrete ties in one pass.

Work on the more than
23-mile stretch of railroad track near Jefferson City, Mo., began August 2 and is scheduled to be
completed by early September. The project includes removing and installing new
rail and replacing the surfaces at 17 grade crossings.
Work on the more than
10-mile stretch of track in St. Louis began July 23 and is scheduled to be completed
by the end of August. The project includes removing and installing more than
12,600 ties, spreading 5,600 tons of rock ballast and replacing 20 grade
crossing surfaces.

Work on the 20-mile stretch
of track in Wisconsin began August 3 and is scheduled to be completed by mid
August. The project includes removing and installing 15,000 ties, spreading
more than 8,300 tons of rock ballast and replacing the surfaces at 18 grade
crossings.
