The East San Fernando Valley light-rail project in California has received some federal funding.

The East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor has been awarded $5 million for its light-rail line that will soon enter the construction stage.

The project will be constructed in two phases. The first phase is estimated to cost as much as $2 billion and will have 11 new transit stations, traction power substations, and a new maintenance and storage facility at-grade alignment. A study will be conducted on phase two, which will be a 2.5-mile shared right-of-way portion from San Fernando Road/Van Nuys Boulevard to the Sylmar/San Fernando station.

The cost of the second phase has yet to be determined, but the entire project is expected to be complete in 2028.
