NEWBERN, Tenn. – Amtrak has completed $3.5 million in upgrades at its Newbern-Dyersburg Station in West Tennessee.

Crews installed a 350-foot platform to allow for a safer and smoother boarding process for those with disabilities. According to the release, it integrates the Newbern Depot & Railroad Museum, an Amtrak waiting room, and a grand room for public functions. Additionally, local sub-contractors worked on accessible parking, public right-of-way access with sloped accessible walkways and safety barriers, and energy-efficient LED light fixtures.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Amtrak Vice President, Accessibility, Stations, and Facilities, Dr. David Handera said, “With construction, renovation, repair, and upgrade projects at stations across the country, station accessibility is a priority we’re actively pursuing with funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. . . We want all of our stations to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for every customer.”

As previously reported, this comes as part of Amtrak’s investment in passenger station accessibility via its Accessible Stations Program. 30 more stations are planned for upgrades this fiscal year with 100% completion by 2029.
