SEATTLE - Amtrak has topped out a steel structure for a new train maintenance facility.
At a new Maintenance & Inspection (M&I) Facility in Seattle, Amtrak says it has “topped out the steel structure” with a placement for a final steel beam. The construction milestone at King Street Yard is an indicator of the collaborative efforts between the contractor and Amtrak, according to the release. This facility will be used for maintenance of the new Airo fleet that will debut later this year.
Now that the structural frame will be completed, Amtrak says it is one step closer in delivering a “modern, efficient facility” to strengthen its operations in this area. As of reporting, an estimated 1.8 million pounds of pre-engineered metal building steel was installed for the facility. Additionally, more than 12,500 cubic yards of concrete has been placed across the facility and parking deck. Crews will work throughout the rest of the year as the project moves into architectural work, systems installation, and interior buildout, Amtrak says. These are done in preparation for advanced maintenance operations. Below is a gallery, courtesy of Amtrak, highlighting construction on the M&I Facility.
