COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Rail Development Commission approved a $1 million grant and a $750,000 loan to Regional Rail, LLC for the Cincinnati Eastern Railroad (CCET).
According to the release, these funds will go toward a railroad tie replacement project that spans multiple counties in Ohio. In total, the project investment is around $2 million. The project includes the purchase and installment of 15,500 ties on CCET’s line in Clermont, Brown, and Adams counties. Additionally, the project includes replacing ties on two bridges. On the eastern side of the line, the railroad has seen “growth in stone traffic.” With the tie replacement, the safety of the line and operations is improved.

President & CEO of Regional Rail, LLC Alfred Sauer expressed appreciation of “the Rail Commission’s willingness and ability to quickly roll up their sleeves and jump right in with the Regional Rail as we work to stabilize operations on Cincinnati Eastern and help to safely work with customers to convert even more freight traffic from truck movement to rail in the Route 32 corridor.’
Executive Director of the Rail Commission Matthew Dietrich said, “Regional Rail continues to invest in the needs of this line. This project represents a strategic investment that not only provides opportunities for more businesses to access rail services, but more importantly addresses the immediate need to improve safety of operations. We are happy to partner with the railroad on such a project.”
