MTA Holds Public Meetings for Interborough Express Project

NEW YORK CITY – The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has received feedback on the Interborough Express, one of its proposed projects.

PIX11 reports the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has received feedback on the Interborough Express, one of its proposed projects. The MTA plans to hold three public meetings to gather public input, with the first having taken place on November 8^th at Brooklyn College. The second meeting will be at P.S. 007 in Queens on November 15^th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The third meeting will take place on November 30^th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Widdi Catering Hall in Brooklyn.

The Interborough Express would run from “Jackson Heights, Queens, to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and connect to 17 subway lines and the LIRR.” This project would also require reconstructing existing lines. Sean Fitzpatrick from the MTA commented that “in some places, it’s only one track. We would need to construct room for additional tracks to run the passenger service as well as putting in all the supporting infrastructure.”

The first steps include developing an environmental impact study (which will take two years) and design plan. While there is currently no funding for the project, Fitzpatrick said that the estimate is around “something like $5.5 billion, in 2027 dollars. We’re trying to responsibly take into account inflation.”
