BOSTON – A third rail issue caused a fire at Tufts Medical Center station on MBTA’s Orange Line.

On Wednesday afternoon, an issue with the third rail at Tufts Medical Center on the Orange Line caused a fire. Boston.com reported that just before noon, a “motorperson of a southbound train reported flames in the track area in the front of the train at Tufts station,” and “power to the third rail was turned off just after noon.”

After the flames were put out, firefighters left Tufts Medical Station by 1:30pm, and MBTA officials arrived “to investigate the cause of the incident.” Service between North Station and Back Bay was suspended in the meantime, and the MBTA encouraged riders to utilize the Green Line in its place. The MBTA also concluded that no injuries occurred.

After repairs, service resumed by 2pm.
