The New York Daily News is reporting that an Amtrak employee was electrocuted and two people sustained minor injuries when an explosion occurred at a New York City power substation in Van Nest Yard, which is shared by Amtrak and Con Ed. The accident occurred at around 11 a.m. yesterday (Thursday), and rail traffic was delayed as first responders swarmed to the site.

ABC News reports that, according to local authorities, the line having the work done should have been turned off, but was actually on, resulting in the worker’s death.

Amtrak released a statement saying “we are deeply saddened to report the death of an Amtrak employee . . . a full investigation is underway.”
