MTA subway motorman allegedly allows friend to operate a D train

The Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 project is one step closer to reality.

A 32 year-old 11-year veteran MTA subway motorman allowed his girlfriend operate his train over a significant distance on Friday, Aug. 13.

The train’s motorman, Terrill Harris, and his girlfriend, Dominique Belgrave, were shown on several videos posted to one of Belgrave’s social media account where Belgrave was operating the train. The New York Post reported that as the train was headed to Coney Island – Stillwell Avenue, Harris told Belgrave the markers where operators are supposed to stop the train are hard to see, and Belgrave agreed.

The Post also reported that Belgrave said ““Y’all ain’t put the stickers in a visible place!,” adding to Harris’s sentiment about the markers.

Belgrave’s social media video posts went viral, seen by many MTA workers. Once an MTA supervisor caught wind of the videos, he called the NYPD.

The Post also reported that Harris earned a 2020 salary of $117,486 and that Craig Cipriano, the Interim President of NYC Transit (see our story on Cipriano), said Harris would be disciplined. Cipriano also said that “This video is beyond egregious showing a train operator who betrayed the trust of New Yorkers while creating a dangerous condition. I want to assure customers that the operator involved has been removed from service and will no longer be allowed to control a train.”

The NYPD and MTA are both investigating what happened.
