SACRAMENTO – SacRT celebrated its Light Rail Modernization Project and held a ceremony for its Folsom 15-minute light rail service.

SacRT, Sacramento Regional Transit District, celebrated its Light Rail Modernization Project and held a ceremony for its Folsom 15-minute light rail service. SacRT reports its groundbreaking “marks the beginning of construction for the passing track near Glenn/Robert G. Holderness Station, a pivotal step in enhancing the transit experience for Folsom area riders.”

Construction includes a disruption to the light rail service between Historic Folsom and Iron Point stations and will begin in January 2024. With construction lasting six months, SacRT adds that it will offer alternative shuttle service for its riders. Once construction is completed, there will be a new passing track that will shorten the current 30-minute light-rail service frequency to 15-minutes. There will also be new low-floor light rail trains along the Gold Line.

SacRT General Manager and CEO, Henry Li, stated: “As we embark on this transformative journey, we recognize the temporary disruptions and inconvenience this may cause our riders. . . We are working diligently to streamline the construction process and provide alternative transit options to mitigate any inconvenience for our valued passengers.”

The 15-minute Folsom light rail service will not only reduce travel time but also enhance the overall commuter experience, aligning with our commitment to providing efficient and accessible public transportation,” said Patrick Kennedy, SacRT Board Chair and Sacramento County Supervisor.
