According to RTD, this next phase of reconstruction work will take place near the Colfax at Auraria Station and is part of a multi-year, $152 million reconstruction project. No light rail will operate in or out of the Downtown Loop during this time. RT&S reported on the first phase in 2024 that included five intersections in Denver’s Downtown Loop. This next phase involves reconstruction work at the intersection of Kalamath Street and Colfax Avenue and will take 86 days to complete by November 27. Crews will remove and replace the track infrastructure, including the concrete, rail, ties, and ballast.

Throughout 2026, the next phases of work will begin. Crews will work on alignment reconstruction at Colfax Avenue, make improvements at Welton Street corridor, and work at Downtown Loop midblock sections.

RTD General Manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson said, “Maintaining RTD’s infrastructure is essential to preserving taxpayers’ previous investments in the region’s mass transportation system. . . This is so much more than a maintenance project. It will ensure that RTD can continue to provide a viable transit network for future generations.”
