INDIANAPOLIS –– Brent Laing, Vice President of Engineering at Canadian National, was presented with the Railway Track & Structures' Engineer of the Year Award at the general session of the annual AREMA conference on Monday, October 2.

RT&S announced on August 3 that Laing had been chosen for the award, and the feature article of our September issue focuses on Laing’s career and accomplishments.

David C. Lester, in remarks to the assembly before the award presentation, said “It is both a privilege and a challenge to select the Engineer of the Year. There are so many wonderful candidates and it’s always a difficult decision to choose a winner, but we are privileged to have the opportunity to bestow the award.”

In receiving the award, Laing said “I accept this award with great pride as I reflect on my long railroad engineering career that has brought so many challenges and so many rewards. I am grateful to Railway Track & Structures for choosing me as their Engineer of the Year for 2023.”
